About the event
This is a Hybrid event that can be attended in person in Newcastle at the CSIRO Newcastle Auditorium, 10 Murray Dwyer Cct, Mayfield West. It can also be attended online.
The talk will cover the global application of geothermal energy plus some exciting developments which are expected to lead to geothermal having a much greater share of global electricity generation and heating.
The situation in Australia, where, despite large resources, geothermal is rarely considered in power options, will also be discussed.
The talk will also include some detail on the Hunter Valley where Dr Bishop’s company Spa*ark Energy Pty Ltd was recently granted a licence to explore for geothermal energy. Following the presentation, John will be happy to take questions from the audience.
Dr John Bishop is a geophysicist by background and training but now more often describes himself as a geothermalist. He established Mitre Geophysics in Tasmania more than 40 years ago. The company advises the natural resource industries internationally and now has branches in WA and Qld. John is experienced in most metallic commodities, plus coal and unconventional gas, as well as geothermal energy in a variety of geologic settings.
John has been a director of several private and public resource and energy companies including EQ Resources (ASX: EQR, founding MD); Riverside Energy (unlisted, exec Chair, which spun out a large UK coking coal project;) Kula Energy with geothermal interests in PNG and KUTh Energy (ASX: KEN, founding Chairman) which explored for and defined geothermal resources in Tasmania and the SW Pacific.
