- 2 min read

As part of the Australian Geothermal Association's webinar series, Dr Dave Bennett from Devil Resources discusses the work underway exploring the geothermal potential of NE Tasmania, which has a distinct geological record to the rest of Tasmania. This includes the unique features that make this area of such high interest, and the work that has been undertaken to learn more about the resource. Dr Bennett gives insight on the magnetic, seismic P & S wave and magentotelluric (MT) observations, and the additional work underway to determine an optimal location to access the underlying geothermal fields.
Presenter:
Dr Dave Bennett is a past Exploration Manager of NZOG, former Chief Executive of Austral-Pacific Energy Ltd., a past director of Rift Oil plc, Trans-Orient Petroleum Ltd and TAG Oil Ltd.; all public listed companies. Most recently he was CEO of Kea Petroleum Limited; but retired from Kea following the discovery of the Puka oil field in 2012. He served as Technical Director of Tag Oil from 2013 to 2021.
Dr Bennett has more than 40 years of experience in exploration in New Zealand and elsewhere around the Pacific Rim. During this time he has played a leading role in attracting overseas investment into New Zealand petroleum exploration by bringing many overseas companies in as joint venture partners. He has been involved in a leading role as chief geophysicist, exploration manager, technical director in some thirteen economically viable discoveries, many of which have subsequently been commercially developed. He has also taken a principal role in the listing of public companies and in raising capital on capital markets in NZ and elsewhere. His efforts in these regards have directly contributed to attracting well in excess of NZ$100 million in foreign investment into New Zealand.
His contact with geothermal projects dates back to the early 70’s, when he completed a PhD in geomagnetic variation sounding and magnetotellurics, and subsequently worked on geothermal related projects in the US, Mexico, Ethiopia and New Zealand.
